I believe marks made by an apparatus don’t hold as much significance as marks made by an artist’s own hand. I wanted to challenge my view and change it by making each mark personal. The objective is to create an apparatus or drawing machine. The purpose of my apparatus is to make me vulnerable. My apparatus is in multiple wearable pieces with different types of brushes connected to them. They allow me to dance up against my canvas as I look towards the audience. I dance to the music I listen to, Electronic/pop. As I am making art with my apparatus not only am I restrained by not being able to see what I am making, but I am also restrained mentally. I’m very insecure about the music I listen to and therefore get anxious when I dance to the music I listen to in front of people. This prevents me from focusing on the marks I’m making, since I would be worrying about my insecurity. I was able to appreciate the marks my apparatus made, adapting my view on what mark making really is. Ink, charcoal dust, and paint on paper.
